Celebrating Diagnosis within the 10-Day Window for Kawasaki Syndrome
Two Things to Celebrate
Kitty Youngsma contacted us because she was grateful that our hospital helped catch her son’s Kawasaki diagnosis within the 10-day window. By giving her a voice on our blog, we are helping her accomplish her goal of spreading the word about the importance of catching Kawasaki Syndrome early, and helping her celebrate a positive patient family experience at our hospital.

“I have two things to celebrate about our experience at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles.
“The first is that, we got him to Childrens within the 10-day window. Luke has Kawasaki Syndrome, an illness that causes inflammation of the blood vessels throughout the entire body. Diagnosing and providing the right treatment for kids with Kawasaki Syndrome within the first 10 days of onset is critical. Yet, the staff at the first hospital we visited with Luke missed Kawasaki. We are so grateful for Childrens and for catching it in time.
“The second thing that I’m grateful for as a mom is how well my son was treated. Luke was treated so well that he says he wants to go back to the hospital. I guess it was the board games, the cheerful paintings, the fish tank, and the Wii system that helped him forget about the tears and the needles. And while these things were helping Luke get through his stay at the hospital, the staff were helping me remain calm, and showed me that they genuinely cared about our entire family.
“That’s why Children’s Hospital Los Angeles is ‘our hospital’ from now on.
“Check out the rest of my story on the hospital’s website.”
